The pharmacy intern performs all the essential functions of a pharmacist under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
- Performs the essential functions of Pharmacy Technician
- Trains to be able to solve problems in the medication use process for patients and the organization

- Trains to assume responsibility for the medication use process, following medication use policy and all laws, regulations, and standards applicable to pharmacy practice

- Performs post-discharge medication reviews and consults with patients and providers under the supervision of a pharmacist
- Participates in Medication Therapy Management
- Must be fully-matriculated and accepted in a College of Pharmacy

We are currently looking for highly motivated pharmacy interns to come work with our amazing staff. We have a wide range of night and weekend shifts that will soon be available. These shifts, in the past, have worked out for former interns who are balancing work experience and study time. Over the years, these positions have mostly involved nights and weekends since these are the times that seem most conducive to the pharmacy students’ schedules. Summary: An intern pharmacist is responsible for, under the supervision of licensed pharmacists, checking prescription orders as they are filled by the technician staff, checking for possible harmful interactions among patient(s)’ drug therapies, completing record-keeping duties, overseeing the completion of prescription orders, and providing patient counseling.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Help patients and healthcare providers by greeting them in person and by phone; answering questions and requests.
Verifying technicians’ preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifying order entries, assembly, charges, and inspections; assist pharmacy technicians as needed.
Order, sell, and control other stock pertaining to patient medical needs.
Achieve knowledge base of compounding sufficient to check compounded prescription orders and counsel patients under the supervision of a pharmacist.
Provide pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals; counseling patients on drug therapies and medical equipment.
Comply with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
Protect patients and pharmacy staff by adhering to infection-control protocols.
Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Enrolled in PharmD program by Fall Semester 2018
Physical Requrements: Good hand-eye coordination, ability to use a computer keyboard, fax machine, communicate by telephone, and lift up to 30lb.
Appearance: Casual business attire that reflects positively on University Pharmacy, with a lab coat and name/position visible to the public is required. Frayed or torn clothing, and open toed shoes are not permitted.

Utah Health Redwood Clinic Pharmacy, Interns
Incoming P1s, University of Utah Health Redwood Clinic Pharmacy is looking to hire an intern from the class of 2022. The position is 15 to 20 hours per week and we'd like someone that is able to start this summer. Intern shifts are available between 9 am and 9 pm, 7 days a week. We are a health clinic with an urgent care center that is open until 9 daily. The pharmacy stays until the last patient leaves, which can be as late as 10:30 pm. We are open holidays too, so there are lots of opportunities for hours. The lead intern does the scheduling and is very flexible with school schedules and willing to accommodate time off requests. We have a very supportive intern team and we would love to interview anyone that is interested.

Looking for a self-motivated student to work at an ambulatory care/retail hybrid pharmacy. Intern responsibilities will include: counseling patients in person at various dialysis clinics as well as via phone, helping to write SOPs detailing workflow practices including pharmacy automation and delivery services, answer patient and provider questions regarding patient profiles, and helping pharmacy technicians fulfill their duties.
The current pharmacy model includes a closed door pharmacy centered on providing monthly blister packs delivered to patient homes or dialysis centers to encourage compliance and overcome barriers to care. Pharmacists interact with a variety of providers to ensure accuracy and safety of medications in addition to addressing patient concerns including financial and poor health literacy. Future models will look at pharmacist-led services to adjust hypertension and diabetes medications.
