Grainger, Bae, Chen visit Hainan Medical University in China
Pharmaceutics Faculty David Grainger, You Han Bae, and Mingnan Chen visited The First Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University, China, on December 5-6, 2016, as a part of an inaugural effort to possibly cooperate with joint research efforts in a new translational medicine research center between the Hospital and the University of Utah Department of Pharmaceutics. The Utah team first introduced research and expertise in the department to Hospital research personnel, and presented three seminars, entitled “The Future of Regenerative Medicine Compare to Tissue Engineering”, “New Transport Models for Nanoparticles to and in Solid Tumor”, and “Cancer Immunotherapy: Past, Future, and Now”.
The Utah team also held candid talks with the President of the Hospital, Dr. Li Li and Executive Vice President, Dr. Xinbao Hao. Accompanied by President Li, the Utah team visited the Phase I Clinical Drug Development Center, the Provincial Key Laboratory of Human Reproduction and Genetics, the College of Pharmacy, and the Chinese FDA-approved Preclinical Drug Safety Evaluation Center at the University. These experiences provided the Utah team first-hand impressions on preclinical and clinical research resources and capacity at the Hainan Medical University that may prove instrumental for efforts at Utah focused on drug development and clinical translation. Both sides expressed strong desire for future collaborations in areas including cancer drug development, clinical studies of orthopedic devices, and preclinical animal models. Communication is on-going in this regard.
