Earlier this month, Dr. David Young of Pharmacotherapy was the recipient of the 2018 ‘Love To Breathe’ award. The Love To Breathe award was established in 2007 by Cystic Fibrosis patient Somer Love. The award is given to “Someone who is passionate about Cystic Fibrosis, someone who is out in the community raising awareness and making a difference, someone who is known in the CF community, and someone who has the ultimate goal to make CF stand for CURE FOUND”. As Dr. Young is a pioneering researcher and educator of adult asthma and adult Cystic Fibrosis, he was well deserving of this distinguished accolade.
This week, Love visited a P1 class to teach the students about Cystic Fibrosis, the importance of individualized care, and how crucial their roles will be in their patient's lives. She stood alongside Dr. Young, the 2018 Love To Breathe Award Recipient and her personal hero. Love has made a tremendous impact on our students, as it is a rewarding experience to learn firsthand from a patient.
In the words of Love, “Dave, congratulations and thank you for ALL you do for so many. You continue to go above and beyond for each patient you truly understand and get the meaning of individualized care. You continually think about each person and their specific needs and make sure those needs are met. You surround yourself with amazing people, and the people who you mentor and your counterparts are the best of the best because of you. I’m sure the pediatric team would agree with me... Jeff is an amazing asset to their team. Dave a simple thank you will never be enough for all you do for the CF community! I hope you know how much you’re appreciated”.
