Congratulations to Molecular Pharmaceutics PhD student Jiemin Huang for receiving a 2026 American Heart Association (AHA) Predoctoral Fellowship. This competitive two-year fellowship supports promising predoctoral trainees pursuing careers aimed at advancing cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and brain health through innovative research and clinical training.
Huang conducts her research under the mentorship of Dr. Erhu Cao. Her work focuses on cation-chloride cotransporters, proteins that play a critical role in maintaining the body’s fluid balance and have significant potential for clinical applications. Her research seeks to understand how the structure of these transporters influences drug binding, with the goal of improving therapeutic strategies. Using advanced cryo-electron microscopy (Cryo-EM), Huang plans to conduct in-depth structural studies and explore de novo peptide design to identify potential inhibitors.
“As an international student, finding funding opportunities can be challenging, so receiving this fellowship was an incredible honor and a strong affirmation of the research path I’ve chosen,” Huang shared. She expressed appreciation for the encouragement she received from colleagues and noted that the fellowship will allow her to further develop her research and training within a supportive scientific community.
The AHA Predoctoral Fellowship is designed to enhance the integrated research and clinical training of predoctoral students and supports collaborative, mentor-guided projects that address important questions in cardiovascular and brain health.
Congratulations to Jiemin Huang on this outstanding achievement and well-deserved recognition!
