Nitish Khurana and collaborators awarded TLO Microgrant

Nitish Khurana, PhD, received a Tech Discovery Micro Grant for the project, 'A Universal Anesthetic Platform for ECMO: Translation and Validation of PEG5-Propofol' from the University of Utah Technology Licensing Office.

This is a one year award for $30,000 in collaboration with Drs. Hamid Ghandehari and Kevin Watt and will generate proof-of-concept data for PEG5-Propofol, a modified propofol formulation designed to reduce drug adsorption in ECMO circuits while preserving anesthetic activity. The work will evaluate PEG5-Propofol in both a gold-standard clinical ex vivo ECMO oxygenator system and the lab’s low-cost oxygenator mimic, AERx, to support commercialization, licensing discussions, and future funding.
