Researchers Awarded BICEPS Seed Grant
Congratulations to Drs. Chen Wang (Materials Science and Engineering), Nitish Khurana (Molecular Pharmaceutics), and Richard Cannon (Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery) for their pilot funding through the 2026 Bioscientific Innovations from Cancer Engineering Partnerships (BICEPS) RFA, a collaborative initiative between Huntsman Cancer Institute, the Price College of Engineering, and the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Utah.
Their project "Stereolithography 3D Printed Implants for Post-Resection Local Control in Head and Neck Cancer" was selected for its outstanding potential to provide impactful solutions to cancer challenges by leveraging methodologies from engineering in clinical or population settings. This project will develop a biodegradable implant that delivers localized chemotherapy after head and neck cancer surgery to prevent recurrence while minimizing systemic side effects. The selection process was highly competitive, and their proposal was chosen for its exceptional merit.
