Outcomes Research Fellowships, Salt Lake City, Utah

Available Now!

The Pharmacotherapy Outcomes Research Center (PORC), based at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy, provides a 2-year post-doctoral fellowship in outcomes research and pharmacoeconomics. The fellowship program is designed to:

  • Educate the fellow on outcomes research principles and applications, and their use in evaluating health care products and services;
  • Provide experience in designing research studies which examine economic, clinical and humanistic outcomes;
  • Develop skills necessary to be a successful independent researcher in highly competitive environments; and
  • Provide training and experience necessary for the fellow to conduct outcomes research in a pharmaceutical company, academic institution, managed care organization or healthcare facility.

The fellow will gain these skills by participation in all aspects of PORC research and outreach. These activities include research question and hypothesis generation, research proposal development, data collection and management, development of data and statistical analysis plans, data analysis, project management, and generation of reports, presentations, and manuscripts.  Initially, fellows work under the direct supervision of faculty and senior fellows. As an individual’s skills develop, he/she will be expected to develop independent lines of research. Through project involvement, the fellow will present at least one abstract at a national society meeting, such as Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) or International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR). Fellows are also expected to submit at least two manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication from activities conducted during fellowship.

The fellowship is a two-year program that can begin anytime between Oct 2019 and Feb 2020 and is based at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.  At the present time there are 4 fellowship opportunities focused on various aspects of applied outcomes research.
