Dr. Makoto Kondo’s Grant Funded by The Center on Aging Pilot Grant Program

Congratulations to Department of Molecular Pharmaceutics Research Assistant Professor Dr. Makoto Kondo, whose in vivo therapeutic effect and spatial analysis of human juvenile cell sheets for elderly cartilage regeneration was awarded grant funding. The Center on Aging Pilot Grant Program promotes the development of aging research at the University of Utah. The goal of this program is to encourage the development of new investigators, attract established investigators to aging research, and stimulate interdisciplinary research collaborations ultimately leading to new externally funded research. Along with Dr. David Grainger (Department of Biomedical Engineering and Department of Molecular Pharmaceutics), Dr. Travis Maak (Department of Orthopedics), and Dr. Jeffrey Weiss (Department of Biomedical Engineering), the plan is to focus on spatial understanding of the aged regenerative tissue microenvironment using living cell sheet technology for knee injury. This research can lead to the creation of new therapeutic solutions for elderly osteoarthritis patients.

Congratulations to these outstanding researchers, we are excited to see what the future holds for this project!
