James (Jim) Ruble, PharmD, JD is the Executive Dean, Professional Education and an Associate Professor (Clinical) at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy. He is also a faculty relations specialist in the Office of Academic Affairs for the Senior Vice President for Health Sciences at the University of Utah.

Jim has adjunct faculty appointments in the School of Medicine-Center for Healthcare Ethics, Arts, and Humanities, in the College of Law, and in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmaceutics at the University of Utah. His teaching, scholarship and clinical activities focus on pharmacy and healthcare law, ethical dilemmas in health care, FDA law and regulation, health care policy, pharmacy compounding, community pharmacy practice, communication and conflict.

Jim is a member of the Utah Bar, and the US Patent and Trademark Office Bar. Jim is trained in conflict resolution and is an experienced mediator. He received academic degrees in science (BS Biology), pharmacy (BS Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy) and law (Juris Doctor) from the University of Utah. Jim has graduate certification in communication and conflict resolution.

Jim is a respected educator and has received many teaching awards, including the College of Pharmacy Teacher of the Year (multiple), Hinckley Institute Outstanding Professor Award, and the Daniels Fund-David Eccles School of Business Award for Excellence in Ethics Education. He served the University of Utah Hospital Ethics Committee for 10 years, and provided clinical ethics consultation. Jim served as a University of Utah Ombudsman. Jim chairs the Controlled Substances Advisory Committee to the Utah State Legislature for the Utah Department of Health. Jim is on the Board of Directors for Wasatch Homeless Health Care ('4th Street Clinic') in Utah. Jim is president-elect of the American Society for Pharmacy Law (ASPL).

Jim feels privileged to be an educator, clinician, and scholar. He strives to be a good humanitarian, living by and promoting the Aristotelian principle of Eudaimonia ('human flourishing').
