Overview
William R. Droschkey was born in Spokane, Washington, but grew up in Orofino, Idaho. In 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served as an engineer and top turret gunner in Italy during World War II. He married his wife, Shirley, in 1948. With the support he received from the Department of Veterans Affairs after the war, Droschkey studied at the University of Utah to become a pharmacist, graduating in 1951. Droschkey worked until 1984, when he retired and transitioned to a life of raising horses and mules. He and Shirley raced horses for several years across five different states and continued to support the College of Pharmacy through generous donations.
