Welcome
Department faculty are involved in several areas of cardiovascular research, including the effect of neuropeptides on cardiovascular function, the effects of epileptic seizure activity on myocardial activity, mechanisms of neointimal hyperplasia associated with vascular grafts, myocardial ion channel physiology and pharmacology, and signal transduction in cells of the cardiovascular system.
Recent work in the department has shown that intense epileptic seizures can have profound effects on the autonomic nervous system's control of cardiovascular function and may underlie the clinical observation that patients with uncontrolled seizures are at a greater risk of sudden cardiac death than the general population.
