The Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department welcomes two new faculty
Dear Pharmaceutics Community,
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Yue Lu and Dr. Alphonsus Ng to the Faculty of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department.
Dr. Yue Lu is an Assistant Professor in the Department. She received her B.S. degree in Chemistry from Nanjing University, and Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina (NC) State University, under the guidance of Dr. Zhen Gu in the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. James R. Heath at the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle and at Caltech. Yue is the recipient of the Graduate Research Advances in Delivery Science Award from the Controlled Release Society, the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed Students Abroad, and the Distinguished Graduate Dissertation Award from NC State College of Engineering. Taking a unique tissue-centric systems biology approach, her lab will use quantitative microscopy, data driven modeling, and controlled drug delivery to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of disease progression, gain a systems view of treatment response, and develop effective therapeutic strategies and formulations for cancer and infectious diseases.
Dr. Alphonsus Ng is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department. Alphonsus was a Banting Postdoctoral Fellow working with Dr. James R. Heath at the Institute for Systems Biology and the California Institute of Technology in the Division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. Earlier in his career, Alphonsus completed post- and predoctoral research with Dr. Aaron R. Wheeler in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Toronto, where he received his Ph.D. in the Institute for Biomedical Engineering and B.A.Sc. in Division of Engineering Science. Alphonsus is the recipient of the Douglas R. Colton Medal for Research Excellence, Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship, Terrence J. Donnelly Centre Research Thesis Prize, and Alexander G. Bell Canada Graduate Scholarship. He is a technology developer in research areas of microfluidics, point-of-care diagnostics, and single cell analysis, with applications in infectious diseases and cancer immunology.
Both their offices and lab are located on the second floor of Skaggs Research Institute. I know they welcome meeting with faculty, staff, postdocs and students and exploring opportunities for collaboration.
On a final note, I would like to once again thank Dr. Mingnan Chen for chairing the search committee and all the committee members, faculty, students and staff who spent many hours over the past year to successfully conduct this search which is now complete.
