Drs. Chen & Wilcox Wins Research Grant

Drs. Mingnan Chen and Karen Wilcox awarded Research Incentive Seed Grant from CoP and VPR

Congratulations to Drs. Mingnan Chen (Molecular Pharmaceutics) and Karen Wilcox (Pharmacology and Toxicology) for their Research Incentive Seed Grant funding from Vice President for Research and College of Pharmacy at the University of Utah! Their project “Programmed death-1 (PD-1), a biomarker for immune cells that contribute to seizures following CNS infection” is in collaboration with Dr. Shreya Goel (Molecular Pharmaceutics). The team will study immunological factors of seizures. Particularly, they will use multimodal approaches to examine whether and how CNS-infiltrated immune cells that express PD-1 regulate or promote seizures. The long-term goal of the project is to develop new treatment strategies to prevent seizure generation.
