We are pleased to announce that our colleague Dr. Jackie Winter has been appointed the new 3i Faculty Co-Director, working with Dr. Daniel Leung. The Immunology, Inflammation, and Infectious Disease Initiative (3i) was established in 2017, and has established a campus wide community of over 200 investigators.

Jackie Winter is an Associate Professor in the Pharmacology and Toxicology Department at the College. She earned her PhD from Scripps Institution of Oceanography in Marine Natural Product Biosynthesis, and completed her postdoctoral training in Germany at the Hans Knoll Institute and at UCLA.

Her interdisciplinary research centers on discovering and developing new therapeutic agents from halophilic microorganisms isolated from the Great Salt Lake, studying how human pathogens acquire antibiotic resistance genes from natural reservoirs, and investigating how microbial communities have evolved mechanisms to survive and thrive in heavy metal-rich environments.
