PharmD EARLY ADMISSION
The University of Utah, College of Pharmacy is happy to announce an Early Admission process is now available to undergraduate students. This program is offered to motivated individuals who would like to secure a seat in our program 1-2 years prior to their intended start date of pharmacy school. Qualified Early Admission candidates will be able to apply for the PharmD program at the University of Utah after completing the following requirements, we also recommend they meet with the Pre-Pharmacy advisor to discuss this pathway.
1. Requirements to Apply
Class Requirements
- 2 Semesters of General Chemistry with Labs
- 1 Semester of a course of your choice from the prerequisite list
- 1 Semester of a course of your choice from the prerequisite list
- 1 Semester of a course of your choice from the prerequisite list
- A total of 5 classes
Other Requirements
- Minimum overall GPA: 3.2
- Prereq GPA: 3.3, all individual course grades at C+ or above
- Statement of Purpose
- 2 Letters of Recommendation (see letter requirements)

2. Interview
Students will be invited to interview throughout the admissions cycle, depending on when they apply. Administrators from the College of Pharmacy will contact applicants to schedule a personal interview to further assess experience and development of key attributes such as communications skills, maturity and career goals. Individuals chosen to interview will be given 2-4 weeks to prepare travel arrangements for an in-person interview, there is potential for a virtual interview option on an as needed basis. After the interview process is complete, each applicant will be notified with a decision from the Admissions Committee within 1-2 weeks, via phone call and/or email.
3. Offer and Deposit

4. Acceptance
- Once an applicant has accepted their admissions offer, they will receive instructions of the next steps needed.
- It will be the responsibility of the applicant to keep the Admissions Team up to date with their progress as they continue to complete pre-requisite courses and experiences.
5. Post Acceptance
In order to maintain a seat in the PharmD program, applicants must complete the following requirements:
- Maintain a minimum overall and prerequisite GPA of 3.0 and complete remaining courses before the target start date.
- Students must select a target start date within a three-year period.
- Demonstrate continued involvement within the pharmacy field (technician, research, shadowing, volunteering in pharmacy setting), community service, and leadership roles.
- Meet with the Pre-Pharmacy advisor once per semester until matriculation in the pharmacy program.
- Other steps will include: a criminal background check through Certiphi, completion of the Graduate School application, updated and current record of immunizations, and more.
- The Student Affairs team will be in touch with this information closer to the applicants start date.
